Heather Priest’s Super Amazing Red Lentil Dahl


1 cup of lentils
½ teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups of water
Bring all ingredients above to a boil in a large saucepan. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 20
minutes or until tender.

¼ cup clarified butter or ghee
½ cup sweet onion chopped
1 tablespoon fresh ginger chopped
2 cloves of garlic minced
½ small green chili seed removed chopped
2 whole dried red chilis
1 teaspoon dried turmeric
2 teaspoons cumin
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cardamom powder
½ teaspoon cayenne
Fresh cilantro and lime for serving

1. Heat ghee over medium high heat in a medium size saute pan.
2. Add onion, ginger, garlic and chili and cook until browned and fragrant about 2 minutes
3. Add green chili, dried chilis and cook stirring for 1-2 minutes
4. Add cumin, cinnamon, cardamom powder and cayenne and stir for 30 seconds. Remove from
heat and pour over lentils. Serve with Chapati
